The South Korea team will challenge the Vietnam team in a FIFA Matchday Friendly Match in Suwon World Cup Stadium Stadium, Suwon on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. For streaming coverage of South Korea vs Vietnam, preview and how to watch it, see in this article.
Both teams are preparing to face the qualifying rounds for the 2026 World Cup which will start in November. The match at the Suwon World Cup today will certainly be very interesting.
South Korea is in pretty good form after achieving two consecutive wins over Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s team showed their offensive strength by scoring five goals without conceding in the two matches. Star Lee Kang In scored twice, while Kim Min Jae, Hwang Ui Jo, and Kim Young Gwon each scored one goal.
Vietnam, on the other hand, is going through a difficult time after suffering two consecutive defeats to China and Uzbekistan. Coach Philippe Troussier’s team was unable to score in these two matches and conceded four goals. They also lost their mainstay midfielder, Quang Hai, who suffered an injury in the match against Uzbekistan.
South Korea has an excellent meeting record against Vietnam. In the previous six meetings, South Korea won five times and lost only once. Their only defeat occurred in 2003 in the qualifying round for the 2004 Asian Cup, when Vietnam won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Pham Van Quyen. Since then, South Korea has always won over Vietnam with a score of at least 2-0.
The South Korean national team is likely to field their best strength to face Vietnam. Son Heung Min, who missed the match against Tunisia due to a groin injury, is expected to feature in the front line alongside Hwang Hee Chan and Hwang Ui Jo.
Vietnam will also try to show their best performance even without Quang Hai. Coach Troussier will likely use Nguyen Tien Linh as the sole striker, supported by Nguyen Van Toan and Nguyen Cong Phuong on the wings.
Looking at it from all sides, South Korea is a stronger and more experienced team than Vietnam. They also have home advantage and full support from their fans. Vietnam will try to provide fierce resistance, but most likely will not be able to match South Korea. The host is expected to win the match.
