The Paris Saint-Germain team will challenge the OGC Nice team in a Matchday 5 French Ligue 1 in Parc des Princes Stadium, Paris on Friday, September 15, 2023. For streaming coverage of PSG vs OGC Nice, preview and how to watch it, see in this article.
PSG will host Nice at the Parc des Princes in the opening match of Week 5 of Ligue 1 2023/24 on Friday (15/9) afternoon. If they win, Luis Enrique’s team will temporarily take over the top position from Monaco.
PSG and Nice have both yet to lose in Ligue 1 this season. They are two of five teams to have such a performance. However, PSG is clearly superior to Nice in recent meetings.
They won 16 times, drew 4 times and only lost 2 times in the last 22 matches in all competitions. However, both defeats occurred at Nice’s home ground. Meanwhile at the Parc des Princes, PSG has never lost to Nice, with 9 wins and 6 draws in 15 matches in all competitions.
This means that since losing 0-1 to PSG on 8/11/2009, Nice has never been able to beat the French capital team in Paris. And, with its current performance, PSG (won 3, drew 2 in the last 5 matches), can get past Nice, who are playing inconsistently away from home. Nice lost 4 times, drew 4 times and only won 2 times in the last 10 away matches.
Paris SG just beat Lyon with a landslide score of 4-1 at Lyon’s home ground in their last Ligue 1 match, extending their unbeaten run since the start of the season to four matches (won 2, drew 2). Nice are also unbeaten (1 win, 3 draws), but they just picked up their first win of the season when they beat Strasbourg 2-0 in their last home game.
When the two teams last met in Ligue 1, PSG won 2-0 at the Allianz Riviera with goals from Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, two stars who are now no longer in Parc des Princes uniform. This season, PSG’s top scorer is still Kylian Mbappé with 5 goals. He even leads the Ligue 1 top scorer list after 4 matches.
Entertaining Nice this time, PSG had to lose Marco Asensio due to injury while playing for the Spanish national team. Kylian Mbappe, PSG’s mainstay striker, also suffered a knee injury and missed the match against Germany which ended with a score of 1-2 on 13/9. However, it is very likely that Mbappe will recover in time for this match. Therefore, coach Luis Enrique will have the opportunity to introduce PSG’s new attacking trio, namely Ousmane Dembele – Randal Kolo Muani – Mbappe (abbreviation DKM).
On the other hand, Nice was unable to play midfielder Khephren Thuram due to a thigh injury on 28/9. The son of former star Lilian Thuram is expected to return to play after 20/9 (in the away match against Monaco on 23/9). Apart from that, Claude Maurice and Antoine Mendy are also absent due to injury. However, coach Francesco Farioli still has several players who can make a difference such as Youcef Atal, Teremas Moffi, Gaetan Laborde.
With the strength of both teams, PSG (won 3, drew 2 in the last five matches), is better than Nice (won 1, drew 3, lost 1). It is not surprising that PSG won the full three points in this match, even though it was not easy.
