Barcelona will start their journey to defend the La Liga title by facing Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday, 13 August 2023. This is the opening match for the two teams in the Spanish Premier League this season.
Barcelona just won 4-2 victory over Tottenham in the Joan Gamper Cup, an annual friendly match held by the club from Catalonia. Barça’s goals were scored by Lewandowski, Yamal, Ansu Fati and Roberto. On the other hand, Getafe had a good performance in friendlies before this season. They won four and lost two of the six games they played. They also showed high confidence at the end of last season by winning three, drawing two and losing one of their last six matches in La Liga.
Looking at the history of the meetings between the two teams, Getafe also always gives fierce resistance to Barcelona at their home ground. In the last five meetings at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, Getafe have lost only once to Barca with a one goal difference. The other four matches ended in a draw or Getafe won.
However, Getafe also has several injured players who are unlikely to be able to appear in this match. They are the two mainstay midfielders Arambarri and Milla. These two players are very important for Getafe’s game which relies on strong defense and fast counterattacks.
Based on the information above, it is estimated that this match will take place at a slow tempo and few chances for goals. Both teams will play carefully and not take risks. Getafe will try to keep their defense and look for gaps to counterattack. Barca will try to control the ball and create opportunities from the wings or free kicks.
