Match Preview

When we talk about French football, two big names immediately come to mind: Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille. Marseille, which is second after PSG, is PSG’s biggest rival in the domestic league. The second meeting is often associated with a classic match or El Clasico between two Spanish teams, Barcelona vs Real Madrid.

This match is not only about winning, but also about the French league title this season. Earlier this month, Marseille beat PSG 2-1 in the Coupe de France, which made this match even more interesting.

Without a doubt, PSG will be fielding their best player, and their coach, Christophe Galtier, will be looking to avenge his previous defeat.

Marseille have increased their attacking power this season with an average of almost 2 goals per game and several key players such as Sanchez, Payet and Gueye have made major contributions to the team’s performance.

Even though Marseille have always been runners-up in Ligue 1, they are still a formidable team and difficult to beat, especially at their home ground. In matchday 25 of Ligue 1, Marseille will take advantage of playing at their home ground to provide fierce resistance to Les Parisiens.

PSG has been going through a difficult period recently. Their performance has continued to decline with only one win from their last four matches. Even though PSG still leads the Ligue 1 standings, a five-point advantage is not a guarantee that they can defend the title this season.

Kylian Mbappe et al are increasingly under pressure because they lost their first point in the Champions League. Entering the first leg of the top 16, PSG lost 0-1 to German giants, Bayern Munich. Lionel Messi et al must fight to win over Bayern in the second leg on March 9.

Team News

The Le Classique duel is fast approaching, but both teams are grappling with injuries and suspensions. Amine Harit of Marseille will be out for the next few months with a serious knee injury, and centre-back Samuel Gigot is also out with an ankle problem.

As if that wasn’t enough, Chancel Mbemba will miss the game through suspension. Luckily, Ruslan Malinovskyi is expected to be able to return after performing brilliantly in the last game.

On the PSG side, injuries have always been a headache for coach Galtier, but the team have seen some positive developments in recent weeks. Marquinhos and Nordi Mukiele are back in full training, which is good news for the team’s defence.

However, Neymar and Nuno Mendes both picked up injuries in the last games. Even the captain of the Brazilian national team, Neymar is likely to be out for up to four weeks due to an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, Achraf Hakimi is still a doubt, and there are rumors that 16-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery could be given a chance to prove himself in the right-back position. In addition, injury-prone Renato Sanches will return from the medical room as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
