Uruguay will host Cuba in an international friendly match on Tuesday, 20 June 2023. This match will be held at the Centenario Stadium, Montevideo, Uruguay. This is the last test match for the two teams before starting the official competition in each region.
The Uruguay team is preparing to take part in the 2026 World Cup Qualification for the South American zone, which will start in September 2023. The team nicknamed Celeste is under the tutelage of new coach Marcelo Bielsa, who replaced Diego Alonso who failed to lead Uruguay to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
Bielsa has shown his ability to lead Uruguay to a 4-1 win over Nicaragua in his first trial match on 15 June. In that match, Uruguay showed an effective and solid attacking game, scoring four goals from ten shots on target.
Cuba, on the other hand, is preparing to compete in the Concacaf Gold Cup, which will take place in July 2023. The Cuban national team will be in Group B along with Mexico, El Salvador and Curacao. Cuba is hoping to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time since 2015.
However, the Cuban national team did not have good capital ahead of the tournament. They just lost 0-3 to Chile in their last trial match on June 17. In that match, Cuba was unable to withstand the onslaught of Chile and only had one shot on target.
In terms of quality, Uruguay is clearly superior to Cuba. Uruguay is ranked 16th in the world according to FIFA, while Cuba is only ranked 165th. The two teams have never met before in football history. However, with such a huge difference in quality, it will be very difficult for Cuba to cause problems for Uruguay.
Uruguay has also had a good performance in their last few matches. They have won four in a row according to Asian markets, and are unbeaten and have not conceded a first half goal in their last 17 matches. If you only count test matches, Uruguay also won according to the Asian market in the first 45 minutes in six of the last seven matches in the last year.
Cuba, on the other hand, has lost all of their last four matches against much stronger teams. They have trailed at half-time in five of their last six games against stronger opponents. Three of their last four friendly matches also had three or more goals in total.
Based on all the information above, Uruguay has a very good chance of winning a big win over Cuba in this test match. They can use their advantage on all fronts to score lots of goals and keep clean sheets, while Cuba must play in a disciplined and compact manner to reduce the margin of defeat.
