Preview
After losing 2-4 to Arsenal at the start of the year, Brighton managed to carve two consecutive wins by scoring a total of nine points and conceding only two goals. Brighton’s win over Everton 4-1 in the last league match was followed by a successful 5-1 defeat of Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
This brilliant result became an important record for coach Roberto De Zerbi who had failed to win in his first five matches with Brighton, drawing two and losing three. The Seagulls have won four wins in their last six league matches which have brought them to eighth place with just one point ahead of Brentford.
In contrast to the host camp, Liverpool have failed to win in their first two matches this year, losing 1-3 to Brentford in the last league match and drawing 2-2 with Wolves in the FA Cup.
The failure to add points in the last EPL match made the Reds’ position even more squeezed, in seventh place with only one point advantage compared to Brighton and three points from Chelsea who are ranked tenth.
Jurgen Klopp’s team are also still struggling to improve their special red report card away from home. Liverpool have managed just two wins in eight league visits this season, drawing two and losing four.
Referring to their head-to-head record, Brighton seems to have started to show resistance to Liverpool since a 1-1 draw at the end of November 2020. In the four h2h meetings since then, Brighton and Liverpool have both shared one win and the other two matches ended draw.
However, the Reds have not lost in the last six visits to the Amex Stadium since September 2011. The 2-1 win in the EFL Cup continued with four wins in the Premier League and one draw.
