Real Betis’ trip to South America did not turn out well. Facing a top-flight club playing in the Argentine Premier Division, River Plate on November 14, Betis lost 4-0, then Verdiblancos suffered 2 consecutive defeats to Colo-Colo with a score of 5-0 and 1-0.
Betis just got a breath of fresh air when they won 1-0 over Manchester United on December 11. Entertaining Man United at the Benito Villamarín Stadium, Betis’ winning goal was scored by Nabil Fekir in the 49th minute.
In order to maintain its existence in the La Liga standings, Betis still needs to increase the strength of the team. Currently, Manuel Pellegrini’s army is 6th in the La Liga ranking list with 24 points. The chances of catching Barcelona are very slim because they are 13 points away, but getting into the Champions League ticket zone is still possible.
On the other hand, Inter have recorded two consecutive wins in recent friendlies. Won 6-1 against Gzira United, and beat RB Salzburg 4-0. Inter appeared without Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martines who attended the World Cup in Qatar. Lautaro will even defend the Argentina vs France national team in the Qatar World Cup Final on December 18.
Even without the star striker currently taking part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Inter are quite confident about the results achieved. Inter’s four winning goals over Salzburg were scored by Henrikh Mkhitaryan (2 goals), Francesco Acerbi and Valentín Carboni, 1 goal each. Inter will only start Serie A on 5 January 2023 against the leaders, Napoli.
Prior to the break due to the 2022 World Cup, Inter had finished 5th in the Italian League standings with 30 points from 14 matches. Simone Inzaghi’s squad is 11 points away from Napoli, but the opportunity to enter 4 four is still wide open.
The two teams have never faced each other in an official competition. Once in a friendly match in 2017, Inter won with a score of 1-0. After going through 2 official La Liga matches later, as champions of the Copa Del Rey in April, Real Betis will go to Saudi Arabia to face Barcelona in the semifinals of the Spanish Super Cup on January 12, 2023.
