Match Preview
Milan endured a disappointing season after failing to defend their title and were knocked out of the Champions League semifinals by city rivals Inter. A 2-0 defeat to Spezia in their last Serie A game means they will have to fight hard in their remaining three matches to catch up to Lazio. Milan have sometimes struggled to beat sides in the bottom half of the table when playing at the San Siro this season, although they are at least unbeaten here since late January.
Sampdoria has no more motivation after being confirmed to be down caste by only collecting 18 points from 35 matches. They drew 1-1 with Empoli on Monday night, after conceding an injury-time equalizer to deny them their first Serie A win since March 19. Sampdoria scored 21 goals and conceded 62 goals, a dismal run that leaves them potentially bottom of the premier league for the first time in their history.
Milan have the upper hand over Sampdoria recently, unbeaten in the last seven Serie A games. The Rossoneri also won 2-1 in their first match of the season at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris in September. Junior Messias and Olivier Giroud scored for Milan, while Filip Djuricic scored the lone goal for Sampdoria. Milan must not be complacent when welcoming Sampdoria who have been relegated.
