Inter are currently on track to add to their Coppa Italia collection. Led by Simone Inzaghi who has won the competition three times, Inter are on the verge of becoming Coppa Italia kings, just one title behind legends such as Roberto Mancini, Sven-Goran Erikson and Max Allegri.
Beating Inzaghi’s team in the Coppa Italia is a big challenge for any team, even more so when Inter are at the peak of their form. They currently lead Serie A and have also qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League.
However, Bologna is not a team to be taken lightly. Under the tutelage of Thiago Motta, the former Inter player who won the treble in 2010, Bologna have become a phenomenon in Serie A this season.
The Bologna team has a number of quality new players, including Sydney van Hooijdonk, Lewis Ferguson, Riccardo Calafiori and Alexis Saelemaekers. They are a team full of character and have a lot of potential, who currently sit in 4th place in the Serie A standings with 28 points, 4 points behind AC Milan who are above them.
However, beating Inter in the Coppa Italia is a different challenge. Of course, this match will not be easy for Bologna, even though Motta has a good track record against his former club.
Inter have an impressive record in this competition, with eight straight wins dating back to the 2021/22 season. On the other hand, Bologna only won the Coppa Italia twice, in 1970 and 1974.
In terms of team strength, Inter will have to play without the injured Juan Cuadrado, Stefan de Vrij and Alexis Sanchez. Meanwhile, Bologna will be without the services of Ricardo Orsolini. However, both teams still have many other quality players ready to appear.
With the current condition of the two teams, Inter remains the favorite to win in the race to qualify for the quarter-finals, but Bologna will definitely provide strong resistance. Tonight’s winner will face Fiorentina in the 1/8 final of the Coppa Italia.
