The Clermont team will challenge the Paris Saint-Germain team in a Matchday 7 French Ligue 1 in Stade Gabriel Montpied Stadium, Clermont-Ferrand on Saturday, September 30, 2023. For streaming coverage of Clermont vs PSG, preview and how to watch it, see in this article.
PSG is ready to maintain their positive trend in Ligue 1 2023/24 by visiting Clermont at the Stade Gabriel Montpied in Week 7.
Clermont are in a difficult situation after only picking up 1 point from their first 6 matches in Ligue 1 this season. Pascal Gastien’s team showed no signs of improvement, especially in terms of finishing. They have only scored 4 goals and conceded 12 goals so far.
The home team also does not have good capital to face PSG, because they just lost 0-2 to Le Havre at home last weekend. Clermont will most likely lose two of their important players, Komnen Andric and Neto Borges, due to injury.
Meanwhile, PSG have returned to winning ways after a shock 2-3 defeat to Nice at home on 16/9. Luis Enrique’s team has won 2 matches in a row without conceding a goal, against Dortmund and Marseille. PSG also leads the standings with 15 points, 3 points ahead of their closest competitor, Lyon.
The visitors also have a very impressive away form with 6 wins and 2 draws in the last 8 matches. However, PSG also needs to improve their weakness in playing less focused in the second half at home to their opponents, when they always conceded 1 goal in 7 of these 8 matches.
PSG are also facing injury problems for their star, Kylian Mbappe, who had to come off the field in the first half of PSG’s 4-0 win over Marseille in the French derby last weekend. Even though Luis Enrique emphasized that Mbappe is “fine”, he still needs to be monitored and wait for the results of the examination in the next 24 hours to find out whether he can play in this match or not.
If Mbappe does not play, Goncalo Ramos or Bradley Barcola will replace his position as a left striker to support Ousmane Dembele on the right and Randal Kolo Muani in the middle as PSG’s spearhead.
Even though the Paris capital team is more favored, they must be alert. The reason is, Clermont surprised PSG with a 3-0 win at PSG’s home ground in Week 38 of last season. However, it was a match that had no impact on PSG, as they had already secured the title previously. This time, PSG certainly doesn’t want to repeat this mistake.
