Lyon will host PSG at the Stade de Gerland on Sunday (3/9) afternoon in the continuation of the 2023-2024 French Ligue 1. This is a very important match for both teams, as they are in opposite positions on the table.
Lyon had a bad start to the season, they only got one point from the first three games. They lost twice to Strasbourg and Montpellier, and only drew goalless against Nice. Now they are in second place from bottom, only one point ahead of bottom team Lorient.
Lyon coach, Laurent Blanc, admitted that he was under great pressure to improve his team’s performance. He even said that he was ready to resign if Lyon could not get positive results in the near future. Blanc faced a lot of criticism from the media and fans for not being able to exploit the potential of his players.
Lyon also does not have full strength to face PSG. They had to lose their mainstay striker, Alexandre Lacazette, who received a red card in the defeat to Montpellier. Apart from that, they also cannot play injured goalkeeper Anthony Lopes and defender Dejan Lovren. Bradley Barcola, a young player who recently moved to PSG, was also unable to play against his former club.
Meanwhile, PSG also didn’t have a very smooth start to this season. They have taken just five points from three games, with two draws against Lorient and Toulouse, and just a win over Lens. They are still two points behind leaders Marseille, who are unbeaten.
PSG also has several internal problems that must be resolved by coach Luis Enrique. One of them is the future of Kylian Mbappe, who has decided to join Real Madrid next summer. Even so, Mbappe remains PSG’s main star, he has scored three goals in the last two matches.
PSG also couldn’t field their best squad to fight Lyon. They had to lose some of their new players, such as Kang-in Lee and Goncalo Ramos, who were still injured. Apart from that, they were also unable to play some of their defenders, such as Presnel Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes, Nordi Mukiele and Juan Bernat.
Based on the latest performance info, the two teams who both want to get three points to improve their position in the standings will compete fiercely with each other. PSG has an advantage in terms of player quality and experience, but Lyon won’t give up easily in front of their own crowd either. Who will come out victorious in this fight?
