Bayern Munich will begin their mission of defending their Bundesliga title by facing Werder Bremen at WESERSTADION on Friday (18/8) afternoon. The visitors will field their new striker, Harry Kane, who is expected to have a positive impact on Hùm xám’s attack line.
Bayern came into this game with less good capital after losing 0-3 to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup. Coach Thomas Tuchel admits that his team must improve their appearance and apologizes to Kane who has not been able to show his abilities. On the other hand, Werder Bremen also didn’t have a good start this season. They lost 1-2 to second division team, Viktoria Cologne, in the first round of the German National Cup. The defeat left Bremen winless in their last three matches in all competitions. They also have problems at the back conceding two or more goals in the last four matches.
Bremen coach, Florian Kohfeldt, said that his team must play more disciplined and focused if they want to keep up with Bayern. He also admits that Bayern is a very strong team and hard to beat, but he doesn’t want to give up so easily. He hopes his players can perform optimally and surprise the defending champion.
We know that Bayern are the best team in Germany and one of the best in Europe. They have extraordinary individual and collective qualities. We have to play very carefully and not give them space. We also have to dare to attack and create chances. We don’t want to just hang around and wait for defeat, Kohfeldt said.
Bremen only have one player out through injury, namely new midfielder Naby Keita who has groin problems. Meanwhile, Bayern were also without main goalkeeper Manuel Neuer who was still injured and was replaced by Sven Ulreich. In addition, full-back Raphael Guerreiro is also still recovering from a calf problem and is likely to be out.
If you look at the results of the meetings between the two teams so far, Bayern has a good record when they travel to Bremen headquarters. They haven’t lost in their last 16 matches there and have always scored a goal. Even though they haven’t found their best form yet, Bayern are still the favorites to win in this opening game. Bremen will try to put up a fight, but likely won’t be enough to stop Bayern’s advance.
