Arsenal will start their pre-season tour by facing Nurnberg in a friendly which will take place on Thursday, 13 July 2023. This is the second meeting between the two teams in the last two years, after Arsenal won 5-3 in the same game in the summer of 2022.
Arsenal have just finished an impressive season finishing second in the Premier League, only to be beaten by Man City who won the title. They will also return to play in the Champions League after a two-season absence.
Mikel Arteta’s side surprised many by shelling out nearly £200 million to sign the likes of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber. With the quality of the squad they have, Arsenal have ambitions to win in all competitions next season.
Before meeting Nurnberg, Arsenal had already played against Watford in a closed trial match. They went behind to an Ismael Kone goal but then Marquinhos equalized for the London outfit. After the match against the German team, Arsenal will fly to the United States.
In the USA they will play against MLS star teams Manchester United and Barcelona, before taking part in the Emirates Cup tournament, where their first opponent will be Monaco. Arsenal will play Man City in the English Super Cup on August 6, and their first game in the Premier League next season will be against Nottingham Forest on August 12.

Nurnberg changed their coach in February this year, when Dieter Hecking took over as caretaker until the end of last season. After that, he passed the baton to his assistant Cristian Fiel. New coach Fiel started his career well with his new team, taking Nurnberg unbeaten in 3 friendly matches this summer, including 2 wins and 1 draw. They beat Pardubice and Diosgyor at home and drew 2-2 against Hartberg.
The next friendly match and also the last for Nurnberg this summer is against Arsenal. Arsenal is not an easy opponent for Nurnberg. At the previous meeting in the summer of 2022, Nurnberg was 2-0 up, but then conceded 5 goals to Arsenal. Two own goals, two goals from Gabriel Jesus and a goal from Mohamed Elneny made Arsenal win in a landslide.
On the other hand, Nurnberg have lost three of their forwards this summer, as Erik Shuranov moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv, Paul-Philipp Besong joined Dortmund and Pascal Kopke moved to MSV Duisburg. Instead, they brought in Daichi Hayashi from Sint-Truiden on loan, as well as Kanji Okunuki as a winger. James Lawrence, who has twice represented Wales, also joined Nurnberg from St Pauli.
