Liverpool are in fifth place in the Premier League standings. The Reds are pressing Newcastle and Manchester United in the race for a top four finish and a win at Anfield could increase the pressure on their rivals.

An important win over Tottenham left Villa in eighth place, only beaten on goal difference by the side who earned tickets to the Europa Conference League. However, their poor away performance became an obstacle for them. Villa must win if they want to qualify for the European cup zone next season.

Match Preview

With seven successive wins, Liverpool have sent a strong message to Newcastle and United in the race for the top four. At the moment, the distance between them is just one point and Juergen Klopp’s side have one game more. Not having full control over their destiny, Liverpool can only do their best by winning the remaining two games.

With the current performance, of course Liverpool are sure to win all three points in the final match at Anfield this season. Liverpool’s home form has been quite high with their last defeat in the Premier League coming in October last year. Since then, Liverpool are unbeaten in 11 matches, with nine of them wins.

For Aston Villa, the chances of qualifying for the European Cup are slim because they are only in eighth place. Unai Emery’s team lost by one point to Brighton who are in sixth place but have played two games more. After two successive defeats to MU and Wolves, Villa has just returned to taste victory in the previous round when they beat Tottenham. However, Villa’s away form has been quite poor with only one draw and two losses in the last three matches.

Liverpool will be without Thiago, Bajcetic and Ramsay in their final game at Anfield this season. However, the home team are highly optimistic that Roberto Firmino can recover from a muscle problem for his farewell game after eight years together. The case of Naby Keita – a player who is also certain to leave Anfield after this season, was not that optimistic and he could only watch from the stands. On the front lines, problems with the toes made Darwin Nunez also hesitant to appear.

In the Aston Villa camp, Philippe Coutinho will miss the meeting with his former club because he is not in the best physical condition yet. In addition, reserve goalkeeper Jed Steer will also be out for the rest of the season after suffering a calf problem. The good news is that defender Matty Cash has recovered and provides coach Unai Emery with additional options.
