Match Preview

Lille will need to turn things around quickly if they are to push their way into European qualification this season. With Rennes just two points clear in fifth place and a place in Conference League Qualification up for grabs, a win against Brest is crucial for Les Dogues.

But it won’t be an easy task, as Brest have proven to be a formidable opponent for Lille in recent years. Brest are unbeaten in their last five Ligue 1 matches against LOSC, and have led them by a total score of 6-3 during that time.

One of the key factors in Lille’s favor has been the form of their striker Jonathan David, who has scored the most goals in the league this season with 15 goals. Five of those goals were critical first strikes of the game, making him an important player for Les Dogues.

Brest will be relying on their goalscoring trio of Jérémy Le Douaron, Steve Mounié and Romain Del Castillo to provide the firepower needed to break their winless streak. The visitors have struggled away from home this season, with just two wins in their 12 away league games.

LOSC, on the other hand, has been strong at home this season, securing 24 points from a possible 36 in their 12 home games. It is clear that Paulo Fonseca’s men will be looking to extend their nine-game unbeaten home run and build on their impressive record at the Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

This promises to be an exciting encounter between two teams with lots to play for. Lille will be hoping to end their run of form and dramatic loss to PSG last weekend (4-3), and close the gap on Rennes, while Brest will be desperate to end their winless streak and climb out of the relegation zone.

The last meeting between the two sides ended in a goalless draw, but with both teams needing a win, this time we could see a much different result.

Team News

Lille mainstay in defence, Jose Fonte, may be absent from their upcoming game against Brest after being substituted in the 14th minute of their last outing against PSG. If the veteran centre-back is unable to play, 17-year-old Leny Yoro could make his debut as a substitute.

In addition, Bafode Diakite, Lille’s right-back, will not be available for the match due to suspension, and Gabriel Gudmundsson could potentially enter despite preferring the opposite wing. Assuming there are no other selection issues, Lille’s manager, Paulo Fonseca, will probably stick with the same lineup that showed great determination in their last defeat.

Meanwhile, Brest impressed in their last match against Monaco, but manager Michel Der Zakarian is still expected to make changes to his team. Hugo Magnetti is hoping to reclaim his position in midfield, and Achraf Dari could potentially replace Christophe Herelle in central defence.

However, Brest may still be without the injured Franck Honorat and Brendan Chardonnet. What the starting lineup will be like for the two teams is highly anticipated, because they are trying to get at least 1 point in this match.
