Xiaomi 14 Ultra: Smartphone with 1-Inch Camera Sensor, AI Chip, and Titanium

Xiaomi just announced its latest smartphone in China, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which will soon launch in the global market on February 25, 2024, in Barcelona. This device offers advanced features such as a 1-inch camera, an AI chip, and titanium material.

1-Inch Camera with AI Chip

One of the main attractions of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is its rear camera, which has four sensors with a resolution of 50 megapixels, including the second-generation 1-inch sensor from Sony, LYT-900. This sensor was previously only used by the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, but the Xiaomi 14 Ultra has a lens with an aperture of f/1.63, which is larger than Oppo’s f/1.8.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra camera is also supported by a new AISP image processing chip, claimed to be the world’s first generative AI chip for photography. This chip uses four major language models for the camera, namely FusionLM, ToneLM, ColorLM, and PortraitLM, which can adjust the images taken, especially with the 30x tele feature.

Xiaomi says that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra tele lens can capture 196% more light than the iPhone 15 Pro Max and 474% more than the 15 Pro, thus producing better photos in low light conditions. In addition, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra camera is also capable of recording 4K/120fps or 8K video, equivalent to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Titanium Material and Satellite Calls

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra design hasn’t changed much from the previous generation, but Xiaomi emphasizes that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra aluminum frame is made from a special aluminum alloy, which is 8% harder than the iPhone 15 Pro. However, Xiaomi also launched a special version with a level 5 titanium frame, which is the same as its competitors.

This titanium version also has a unique feature, namely two-way satellite calls and messages, which allows users to communicate without a cellular network. However, this feature is only available in China. In addition, Xiaomi also embedded a T1 chip that enhances the signal connection of the network, wifi, and Bluetooth for all versions of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

Screen and Performance

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra has a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with 2K resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, and brightness reaching 3,000 nits. This screen is protected by new Shield Glass, which has 10 times better drop resistance than the previous generation and displays better colors.

In terms of performance, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a maximum of 16 GB RAM, the highest internal memory of 1 TB, and a vapor chamber cooling system that is three times larger than the previous generation. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra also uses a new carbon silicon battery with a capacity of 5,300 mAh, which is smaller, more durable, and supports 90 W wired fast charging and 80 W wireless charging.

Price and Availability

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is sold in China with prices starting from 6,499 CNY (900 USD). The titanium version is about 142 USD more expensive, but it will only be available in the market in mid-March 2024. Xiaomi has not yet announced the price and release date of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra for the global market, but it is expected to be announced soon on February 25, 2024, in Barcelona.
