Vietnam and Thailand are the two strongest football teams in Asia at the moment. Vietnam advanced to the 2022 AFF Cup final after going through a tough struggle against Indonesia.
Playing in Jakarta, Vietnam was held to a 0-0 draw, but in the second semi-final leg, Park Hang-seo succeeded in making a new strategy so that as the host, Vietnam won 2-0 over Indonesia at My Dinh Stadium.
An almost similar case also accompanied Thailand’s journey to the final round of the tournament sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric.
In the first leg, the War Elephant team lost 1-0 to Malaysia, but in the home game at Thammasat Stadium, Thailand’s game progressed rapidly so they won 3-0, and have the right to face Vietnam in the final with an aggregate score of 3-1.
The last time the two teams met at the same event was in the 2020 edition. The squad coached by Alexander Polking managed to record a 2-0 aggregate victory in the semifinals, and then Thailand won the 2020 AFF Cup after beating Indonesia.
Looking at the recent performance, the two national teams do have their own strengths. Thailand has an excellent attack line and has bagged 16 goals in the last 6 matches, but Vietnam’s defense is very solid. The proof is, The Golden Stars have never conceded until the semifinals of the 2022 AFF Cup.
The duel between the two Asian giants is expected to be fierce, because Vietnam and Thailand do not want to lose their initial opportunity to collect points in the first leg of the final round later.
