Sharing points in the last league game with AS Roma has moved AC Milan’s position in the Serie A standings to third. But before continuing in the domestic league, the Rossoneri must first host Torino to fight for a position in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia.
As Serie A champions last season, Milan faced a busy schedule this season with a number of competitions – Serie A, Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana, to the Champions League. After hosting Torino, Stefano Pioli’s side will challenge Lecce before then meeting Inter Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana.
Interestingly, one of the two defeats that Milan has suffered in 17 matches in Serie A this season occurred against Torino at the end of October 2022. The goals scored by Koffi Djidji and Aleksey Miranchuk at that time were only able to be answered by a single Junior Messias goal.
This defeat is also the first negative record among eight head-to-head meetings against Torino in various competitions since January 2020. In the seven previous meetings, AC Milan managed to score six wins, although two of them came in extra time and penalty shootouts in the Coppa Italia. .
AC Milan have also failed to win against Torino in their last two league outings, playing out a goalless draw in April 2022 before losing 2-1 six months later. Torino’s arrival at the San Siro this time was also accompanied by a positive record without losing in the last four league matches, although three of them ended in a draw.
Ivan Juric’s camp is currently ranked 10th in the Serie A standings, 14 points adrift of Milan but 14 points away from the relegation zone. This condition makes Il Toro relatively comfortable facing the next league match, without the burden of the threat of relegation.
Unfortunately this visit was accompanied by a special red report card in away games. Among the last seven league visits, Torino have only managed one win and one draw. Meanwhile, four other away matches ended in defeat for Torino, including against two other Serie A giants – Napoli and Inter Milan.
