Argentina beat France after the first half finished with seven minutes of added time in the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar. The match took place at the Lusail Aikonik Stadium in Lusail on Sunday, 18 December 2022.
In the 23rd minute, Argentina captain Lionel Messi opened the scoring with a penalty after Di Maria was fouled in the box. And in the 36th minute, Angel Di Maria doubled the Albiceleste’s advantage 2-0.
Messi Sets a New Record
After scoring in the final, Messi became the first player to score at a single World Cup in five stages of the tournament. In the group stage, Messi scored goals against Saudi Arabia and Mexico, at the 1/8 final stage – Australia, in the quarterfinals – Holland, in the semifinals – Croatia, in the final – France.
At the 1970 World Cup, Brazil’s Jairzinho scored goals at all stages, but the playoffs at that World Cup started from the 1/4 final stage.
At the end of the first half, France decided on double substitutions: Didier Deschamps replaced the two main forwards, Olivier Giroud and Ousmane Dembele, Marcus Thuram and Randal Kolo Mouni took to the pitch.
