The Montenegro national team match against the Lithuania in Matchday 9 of the EURO 2024 Qualifiers on Thursday, November 16, 2023 will be held at the Stadion Pod Goricom Stadium, Podgorica.
The hosts consider the match at the Pod Goricom Stadium in the Group G round of Euro 2024 Qualification to be very important because they still hope to qualify for the finals in Germany next year.
Montenegro is currently in third place with eight points, six points behind Hungary who tops the standings and five points from Serbia who is in second place. Montenegro must win over Lithuania and Hungary in the remaining two matches, while hoping that Serbia loses to Bulgaria in the final match.
Montenegro has good enough capital to face Lithuania, which is the weakest team in this group. Montenegro has only lost once in the last four matches in Euro 2024 Qualification, namely 1-3 to Serbia. They also won 2-1 over Bulgaria and 3-2 over Lebanon in friendly matches.
Montenegro coach, Miodrag Radulovic, will rely on key players such as Stevan Jovetic, Stefan Savic, Marko Vesovic and Adam Marusic to bring his team to victory. Montenegro also has the superior head-to-head record with Lithuania, with two wins and one draw in their previous three matches.
Lithuania, on the other hand, did not have much motivation to play in this match. They have certainly failed to qualify for the finals, with only six points from seven matches. They have not won in the last five matches in Euro 2024 Qualification, with only two draws, namely 2-2 with Montenegro and Hungary.
Lithuania also has problems in terms of productivity and resilience. They only scored eight goals and conceded 12 goals in seven matches. They also often lose points in the final minutes, such as when they lost 0-2 to Hungary in the 87th minute and 90+3.
Lithuanian coach, Valdas Urbonas, will try to raise the enthusiasm of his players to perform optimally in this final match. He will rely on experienced players such as Fedor Cernych, Arvydas Novikovas, Saulius Mikoliunas and Egidijus Vaitkunas to provide resistance to Montenegro.
Even though they have various advantages, especially playing at home, Montenegro must be alert. The reason is, even though there is nothing else at stake, Lithuania could be an obstacle for the hosts. Lithuania will try to defend tightly and rely on counter attacks.
