On Sunday, August 20, 2023 Aston Villa will compete against Everton in the Matchday 2 of the Premier League match. Watch here, Aston Villa vs Everton live streaming, preview and how to watch it.
Two clubs looking to bounce back from humiliating defeats to start off the Premier League season meet in the West Midlands on Sunday, as Aston Villa host Everton. Unai Emery’s side were beaten 5-1 by Newcastle United in their opener, while the Toffees rued the many missed opportunities in their 1-0 loss to Fulham.
Aston Villa were crushed by Newcastle at St James’ Park with a score of 5-1. The visitors had equalized through Moussa Diaby after being left behind by Alexander Isak’s goal. However, after Tyrone Mings suffered a serious injury, Newcastle added four more goals through Isak, Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes.
This crushing defeat leaves Aston Villa at the bottom of the Premier League standings with 37 games remaining. However, the home team has an impressive home record winning their last seven games last season. They will also enter the European Conference League play-off round against Hibernian later this month.
Meanwhile, Everton also had bad luck in their first game. They dominated the game against Fulham, but failed to score. Michael Keane had scored a goal against Bernd Leno, but his goal was disallowed because James Tarkowski was deemed to have violated the Arsenal goalkeeper. In the second half, Bobby Decordova-Reid scored the only goal that ensured Fulham’s victory.
Everton took 19 shots to Fulham’s nine but only four were on target. Sean Dyche remains satisfied with his team’s performance, but admits they need to be more clinical in front of goal. The Toffees lost only one of their last seven away games last season.
However, Everton will face a tough challenge against Aston Villa, who they have not beaten in the last eight meetings since The Lions were promoted in 2019. Villa have even won four successive wins over Everton, including a 2-1 win at Villa Park last season.
However, Everton were given good news by the return of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin after completing 90 minutes in a midweek friendly. Meanwhile, Aston Villa are still without a number of their core players, including captain Tyrone Mings, who suffered a serious knee injury last weekend.
Relying on the info above, Aston Villa is expected to still have a slight lead thanks to the support of their supporters and a strong home record.
