AC Milan will conclude their pre-season by hosting Novara at the Milanello Sports Center on Sunday (13 August). This is the last chance for the Rossoneri to prepare before kicking off their 2023-24 Serie A campaign by hosting Bologna on 21 August.
Milan have had an underwhelming pre-season, losing three of their four friendlies. They only won on penalties against Monza on Wednesday, after a 1-1 draw in normal time. Christian Pulisic’s first-half opener was equalized by Andrea Colpani three minutes later. Milan then won 6-5 on penalties and won the Silvio Berlusconi Trofeo for the first time.
Novara, on the other hand, has been in good form in pre-season, picking up three wins and a loss in their four friendlies. They also managed to keep two clean sheets. Novara will kick off their Serie C campaign next month and do not have any friendlies scheduled after their meeting with Milan.
These two teams have quite a long history, having met 38 times in various competitions. Their last meeting was in 2012, when Milan won 2-1 over Novara in Serie A. Overall, Milan have a 25-10 lead over Novara, with three matches ending in draws.
Milan are also unbeaten in their last 12 meetings with Novara, winning the last eight in a row. At home, Milan have been even more dominant, having gone unbeaten in 13 games against Novara, winning 12 of them. Novara has only won three times at home to Milan, the last time being in 1955.

Nonetheless, Milan must not underestimate Novara, who have shown what they are capable of in pre-season. Novara also has several players who have played for Milan, such as Marco Rigoni, Giacomo Bonaventura and Alessandro Matri. They certainly want to prove themselves to their former club.
