Atletico will continue their preparations for the new season by facing a select team from the South Korean league, the K-League All Stars, in a friendly match which will take place on Thursday, 27 July 2023.
Diego Simeone’s side just lost to Besiktas 1-0 in their first friendly in Turkey. They will look to improve their form and get their first win on the tour this pre-season.
Atletico have made some big changes in the transfer market this summer. They sold several players such as Matheus Cunha, Renan Lodi and Geoffrey Kondogbia, and brought in several new players such as Caglar Soyuncu, Javi Galan, Cesar Azpilicueta and Santiago Mourino.
Coach Simeone has brought all the starting and new players to South Korea, including stars like Luis Suarez, Joao Felix, Marcos Llorente and Koke. They will face a K-League All Stars team consisting of the 22 best players from the South Korean league.
In this match, the K-League All Stars Team was chosen by voting by fans and coach Hong Myung-bo, who also manages Ulsan Hyundai. The team will be playing for the fourth time since 2010 against a European team, having previously met with Barcelona, Juventus and Tottenham.
However, this team could only achieve one draw and two defeats from those three matches. They will face difficulties to play compactly and match the quality of Atletico, who have experience at the highest level.
This match will be an opportunity for the K-League All Stars players to show their skills in front of their fans and coaches. They will also be looking to surprise and repeat their draw against Juventus in 2019.
