Chelsea will begin their pre-season tour of America against League Two side Wrexham on Wednesday, 19 July 2023. This is the first game for new coach Mauricio Pochettino who was appointed to replace Frank Lampard who was sacked after last season without a title.
Pochettino, who previously coached Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, is expected to bring Chelsea back to winning ways after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season and being knocked out in the last 16 of the Champions League.
One of Pochettino’s main tasks is to maximize the potential of the new players bought by Chelsea at a high price last season, such as Nicolas Jackson, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell.
Jackson, who was brought in from Borussia Dortmund with a transfer fee of 200 million pounds, was the main highlight in this match. The English striker will be getting his first chance to prove his worth at Chelsea.
Jackson is known as a player who has incredible speed, technique, and scoring instincts. Last season, he scored 35 goals and 15 assists in all competitions with Dortmund. He is also the Champions League top scorer with 12 goals.
Jackson will face a very fragile Wrexham defense. The team from Wales have just been promoted to League Two after winning the National League last season. However, they don’t have the experience of playing against big teams like Chelsea.
On the other hand, Wrexham is also not used to playing well away from home. They have lost four in a row when playing away from home. They also often concede goals when playing away from home. Five of their last eight away matches there have always been at least four goals scored.
