Malaysia will host Papua New Guinea at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium on Tuesday for an international friendly match. This is an opportunity for Harimau Malaya to maintain his good form after winning the last three friendly matches with seven goals and conceding only one goal.
The Malaysian national team already had the AFF Suzuki Cup 2022 which was quite successful by qualifying for the semifinals and only getting knocked out by defending champion Thailand. Coach Kim Pan-gon’s squad have shown clear progress winning the last seven friendly matches, since losing 1-2 to Singapore in March 2022.
In the last friendly match on Wednesday last week, Malaysia earned a 4-1 comeback win over the Solomon Islands thanks to goals from Safawi Rasid, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, Mohamadou Sumareh and Akhyar Rashid.
Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea has put in a formidable performance by coming from behind twice to salvage a 2-2 draw with Singapore when the two teams met last Friday. This was Kapuls’ first match since September 2022, when they won 1-0 over Vanuatu thanks to a goal from Kepo.
Papua New Guinea is currently unbeaten in four of the last five matches in all competitions, picking up three wins and one draw. However, they will be facing Malaysian opponents who have won three of the last four meetings, barring a 2-0 loss in June 2016.
With their performance and advantage of playing in front of their fans, Malaysia is predicted to win an easy victory over Papua New Guinea.
