On Sunday, June 18, 2023 Canada will compete against United States in the Finals of the Concacaf Nations League match. Watch here, Canada vs United States live streaming, preview and how to watch it.
The United States are the defending champions, having beaten Mexico 3-2 in the first-ever final in 2021. They also won the CONCACAF Gold Cup that same year, beating Mexico again 1-0 in the final. Thus, the United States has proven that they are the strongest team in the region at the moment.
However, Canada should not be underestimated, as they have shown tremendous improvement under coach John Herdman. They managed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals which were hosted in Qatar, and also reached the 2022/23 CONCACAF Nations League finals for the first time in history.
Canada has a squad of young, talented and passionate players, led by two rising stars: Jonathan David (Lille) and Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich). Both have scored important goals for their national teams, and also impressed at their European clubs.
In the semifinals, the Americans defeated Mexico 3-0, thanks to goals from Ricardo Pepi, Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic. They put in solid form across all fronts, and also have good squad depth. Coach Brian Callaghan, who replaced Anthony Hudson as caretaker coach, has adopted an offensive and dynamic playing style.
Meanwhile, Canada beat Panama 2-0 in the semifinals, with goals from Jonathan David and Alphonso Davies. They dominated the game, and did not give the opponent a chance to create dangerous opportunities. Coach John Herdman has also built a compact and disciplined team.
The two teams met in the group stage of the first edition of the CONCACAF Nations League in 2019. At that time, Canada won 2-0 at home, but lost 1-4 away. Thus, the head-to-head record between the two teams is quite even.
This final match will be a big test for both teams, as they will try to show that they are the best team in the North, Central America and Caribbean region. The United States has the home advantage and more experience, but Canada is highly motivated and has a lot of confidence.
