The Indonesia team will challenge the Palestine team in a Friendly Match in Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. For streaming coverage of Indonesia vs Palestine, preview and how to watch it, see in this article.
Indonesia will face Palestine in an international friendly match in 2023. The match will be exciting as Indonesia will try to extend their unbeaten record to three matches before facing world champion Argentina.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian team also has a record of four consecutive wins, albeit in the span of one year, and they will want to show what they are capable of at Gelora Bung Tomo.
Instead of facing Palestine in the next match, all parties related to Indonesia must have been looking forward to the arrival of Lionel Messi et al, the 2022 World Cup winners to their homeland. Coach Shin Tae-yong has even called up 25 players for two games this month, nine of whom are playing at foreign clubs.
Since losing in the semifinals of the AFF Championship in January, Indonesia have only played in two matches, facing Burundi in both meetings in the span of a few days. Merah Putih won 3-1 in the first match, before a dramatic finish in the second saw Burundi take the lead in the 90th minute before failing to hold on to the lead.
Meanwhile, Palestine have been in top form since last year, winning their last four matches. That included a 2-1 win over Bahrain in March to start 2023 on a positive note, a feat to be reckoned with for the Canaan Lions.
Palestine’s aim now is to build on that result as they look to prove their current FIFA ranking of 93rd with no defeat since 2021. Coach Makram Daboub has called up 23 players for this month’s two games against Indonesia and China, nine of them based abroad.
With Argentina to face five days after this game, it is not yet clear whether coach Shin will start from the starting line-up or stick with players from the last game. If the South Korean coach chooses to keep the same XI, Ipswich Town’s Elkan Baggott and former Swansea City man Jordi Amat will be the main names in central defence. Rafael Struick, a young striker from Dutch club ADO Den Haag, could very well get his senior debut for Indonesia off the bench.
Meanwhile coach Makram Daboub could pick any Palestinian player who started the win over Bahrain and he may see no reason to change that team. But there is still Shabab Al-Khalil striker Tamer Seyam has scored 12 goals in 52 games for the Canaan Lions. Tamer Seyam needs two more goals to become joint top scorer for Palestine.
Indonesia and Palestine have only met once before, which ended in a 4-1 win for team Garuda in August 2011. Indonesia have only won twice in their last six matches (2-1 vs Philippines in the 2023 AFF Championship and 3-1 vs Burundi in March 2023 friendly matches).
