In the Name of God, A Holy Betrayal Storyline
In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal’ tells the story of four sect leaders who founded their respective sects under the guise of religion. The four leaders are Jeong Myeongseok, Park Soon-ja, Kim Ki-Soon, and Lee Jaerock.
Jeong Myeongseok is the founder of the Providence Sect, otherwise known as the Christian Gospel Mission or JMS. Through the religious movement that started in 1980, Jeong Myeongseok took advantage of religious teachings and claimed to be the Messiah. Currently, Jeong Myeongseok is awaiting trial in relation to cases of sexual harassment against female followers.
Park Soon-ja is the CEO of Five Ocean Company, a company that produces handicrafts and has received awards from the government and is known for participating in various charity work. But Park Soon-ja was also known as a sect leader who was also killed in the mass suicide incident of members of the Odaeyang (Five Ocean) Church in 1987 which claimed 32 lives.
Kim Ki-Soon leads the cult of Baby Garden which has a special settlement for herself and her followers. Apart from being a religious leader, Kim Ki-Soon is also known to have a modern company that is popular among K-pop lovers. However, Kim Ki-Soon’s cruelty was detected by an incident in 1996 known as the ‘Baby Garden’ incident, where a seven-year-old child was killed because he was considered to lack faith.
Lee Jaerock is the leader of the Manmin Church who once hacked the broadcast of MBC television station, causing huge losses. Even followers of the Manmin church attacked and terrorized the crew of the ‘PD Note’ program at the MBC office. Lee Jaerock is becoming more and more famous because of his ability which is considered capable of healing sick people. However, it turned out that Lee Jaerock also abused several female followers and was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2018 after one of the victims reported a rape case.
