Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda’s latest work, Broker, is ready to be screened in several countries starting June. The film, which received a 12-minute standing ovation during its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, can be seen at selected local cinemas and film festivals.
Produced in South Korea, Broker follows the journey of an unlikely group of people: two ‘brokers’, or intermediaries, who run an illegal baby adoption business, the young mother of a baby about to be sent to new parents, and the little baby himself. Plus, two female detectives who follow in their footsteps unnoticed.
After winning the prestigious Palme d’Or award at the Cannes competition programme, Broker continued to top the box office rankings in South Korea, replacing the action-thriller film The Roundup. Featuring veteran cast members Song Kang Ho (Parasite), Kang Dong Won (The Priests) and Bae Doona (The Host), as well as young actresses Lee Ji Eun or IU (My Mister) and Lee Joo Young (Itaewon Class), Broker is one of the must-watch family films this year.

Synopsis
Sang Hyeon (Song Kang Ho) has a seemingly simple life. He runs a small launderette, and sometimes volunteers at a nearby church. But secretly, with his friend Dong Soo (Kang Dong Won), Sang Hyeon runs a hidden business: being a distributor of babies abandoned in the church’s “baby box” to parent candidates who are willing to pay.
Until one day, a young mother, So Young (Lee Ji Eun), caught them taking the baby she had just left. To reassure her that the baby is in good hands, Sang Hyeon and Dong Soo are forced to take So Young on a trip to meet the baby’s future parents. Unbeknownst to them, two detectives, Soo Jin (Bae Doona) and Lee (Lee Joo Young), are following in their footsteps.
